A two-hour drive from the Thai capital of Bangkok brings you to Pattaya, the resort area with the longest tradition in the country. Development in recent years has made the sea here less clear than it used to be, but the area's proximity to Bangkok continues to make it a very popular and attractive destination. As a marine sports mecca, it is on par with Phuket, offering WaveRunner rentals, banana boat riding, parasailing and windsurfing, helmet type diving and scuba diving. While Pattaya's main beach is rather crowded with incoming and outgoing high-speed boats, the waters along Jomtien Beach just to the south of the main beach are relatively free of boat traffic and a good place to enjoy marine sports like WaveRunner riding.

Find one of the private rental operators along the beach that has the model you want and make sure that they offer proper instruction in operation and safety items and a reasonable price when you apply to rent it. Since this is another area where many people enjoying marine sports, be careful to avoid other boats and swimmers when you ride. Be sure to take notice of the buoys that separate the swimming areas from the riding areas.
