QLD Wave Day

Date
01-Oct-06
Place
Marine Stadium, Seaworld Drive, The Spit, Gold Coast, QLD
Organizer Country
Yamaha Motor Australia Australia

Weather conditions were unpredictable for the Queensland Wave Day, as it forecasted a thunder storm. However, we were in a reasonably sheltered area at Marine Stadium, on the Spit. This year we cleared the area of boats to provide a huge and safe area to have the S1 and Educational Fun Zone. The day attracted a total of 36 Registrants, - all of which enjoyed the fun.
The day started with Mr. Dion Ellison of the H2O giving a thorough safety briefing, highlighting the local Maritime laws, no-go zones and rider responsibilities.
The S-1 Challenge proved popular, with all registrants, dealers and some YMA staffs attempting the course. The fastest time was 23.89 seconds on a GP1300R.

For the first time we tried a treasure hunt, which included finding hidden letters to make the word “Yamaha” and lolly bags. This took place on an isolated beach up the Broadwater.
The Educational Fun Zone was successful, as participants were educated in safe riding prior to being able to race the new 2007 models around a marked course
For all those who contributed to the safe, effective and professional way in which the Wave Day was set up and run - a big thank you! This includes, the H2O team, YMA staff, Gold Coast Wave Runners, Custom Jet Skis and North Coast Jet Skis. A magnificent effort!
