The much waited SPBA Jet Sports Championship 2007 (Round 1) was held at SAF Yacht Club on 3rd June 2007 in conjunction with the club 40th Anniversary celebrations.
This event was jointly organized by Singapore Powerboat Association and SAF Yacht Club and co-sponsored by Supratechnic Pte Ltd. Malaysia riders from Johor were also invited and took part in this Championship race.
The first event of the day is the Endurance Challenge race which attracted 18 PWC enthusiasts and it required riders to ride a distance of 30km over 3 laps. This is an open category event and there is no restriction on machine power, gender, rider’s skill and etc. Result is base on point system which is the deciding factor for the race.
12 Yamaha Waverunners took part in the Endurance event and the breakdown are 5 units of FX Cr HO, 3 units of GP1300R, 2 units of GP1200R and 1 unit WB800. 5 units were the models of other brands.

GP1300R from Singapore emerged as the champion though he was not the first to cross the finishing line but those ahead of him were penalized for failing to observe the race rules. 2nd position is a model of the other brand ridden by a Malaysian and it was followed closely by another GP1300R from Singapore. To ensure that other Yamaha riders do not go home emptied handed, souvenirs were given for all Yamaha riders who took part in this event.
The afternoon session of the Jet Sports Championship was an all Yamaha event. Yamaha Slalom Grand Prix S-1 Worldwide was conducted and the race craft was a Waverunner VX. This Slalom time trial is fully sponsored by us and besides catering to hardcore riders, it also provided an avenue for those who were not daring enough to take the endurance challenge as well as amateurs and family oriented visitors.
This slalom time trial event attracted a total of 32 participants and souvenirs were given for all participants. Beside educating and cultivating the safety aspects of riding Yamaha Waveruners, this event also brought fun and memory to riders and spectators as they witnessed the skills of “gungho” riders, less experienced riders being thrown off, slow and steady riders and etc.
The National Jet Sports Championship 2007 was concluded with the closure of the S-1 Worldwide Slalom. Prize giving is not held due to time constraint as many riders especially the Malaysian team needs to ride their crafts back home before night falls. Organizers had fixed the prize and thanks giving ceremony on 15th June 2007.
Trophies and gifts will be presented to the top 3 riders with the best timing clocked. Novelty gifts will too be given for 2 lady participants as well as 1 who clocked the slowest timing.
The closure of the Jet Sports Championship had put another chapter in Singapore PWC promotion and activities. This is not possible without the tireless effort from Singapore Powerboat Association, particularly the president Mr. Justin Lee, SAF Yacht Club for co-organizing and sponsorship.
Thank you very much!
