On March 1, 2007, a training seminar was held for Yamaha PWC dealers on China’s Hainan Island to train them in the organizing and running of S-1 Slalom competition events. This seminar was organized by the China market distributor YAMAHA MOTOR COMMERCIAL TRADING (SHANGHAI) CO., LTD. and it gathered 27 representatives from 19 Chinese dealerships. The event allowed dealers who were mostly unfamiliar with S-1 to experience the slalom competition first-hand and provided an excellent opportunity to encourage them to hold S-1 events in their local markets as a demand-creating promotion and after-sale follow-up event for their customers. In the seminar, the dealers heard presentations about the benefits of S-1 as a user follow-up event and providing safety education for general users, instruction in the assembly and operation of an S-1 course on the water and other helpful ideas. And the participating dealers showed themselves to be very enthusiastic in the PWC riding experience and the entire seminar agenda. Although most of the dealers had never run an S-1 slalom course before, they were quick to learn technique after just a few tries and were soon riding with skill and enthusiasm. Before long, they were cheering for each other as they took turns running times laps in an exciting atmosphere.

Before long a gallery of spectators had gathered as tourists happened by the riding venue and stopped to watch until the end. And, in the evening party after the event, the dealers with the three fastest S-1 lap times were presented with award presents. As personal consumption continues to boom in China, the ongoing organization of events like this at dealerships around the country is sure to lead to new business opportunities and industry growth. Surely this is a time when we can expect to see exciting growth beginning in the PWC market in China.
