The storm the night before and the weather on the morning of the event may have deterred some participants, however, conditions improved and provided a great day for the 35 registrants.
The day started off with an introduction by myself and progressed with Jack from H2O giving a safety briefing.
Whilst Jack was talking we handed out leaflets about rider etiquette, safe riding and craft maintenance.
Having the digital timing scoreboard for the competitors and onlookers to see, was a hit. Joining us on the day was Anthony Pike from the Spare Parts Department of YMA. He kindly gave up his time to have a stand at the event to display Wave Runner accessories and guide the customer to the dealerships.
The Waterways Authorities kept a close watch on the event. Our re-assurance and having the correct permits allowed us to continue the event without interruption. Once again, Deon was MC ‘the man on the mike’ and kept the crowd entertained with his witty repartee.
Lunchtime is always popular, and welcome after a hard mornings racing.
The S1 Challenge was a fiercely fought contest, with split second timings determining the winners.

A new element was to give the visiting kids a ride in a ‘tube'.
The ‘Come and Try’ circuit was popular. Especially we had the new 2007 VX Cruiser and FX160 High Output to try.
This was the ‘line-up’ of most of the visiting craft, just prior to departing for the tour. The tour and combined treasure hunt gather and set off in mass.
The day finished with a presentation to last years’ international S1 prize winners and contestants ‘on the day’. For all those who contributed to the safe, effective and professional way in which the Wave Day was set up and run.
I thank you very much! This includes, Jack, Deon & the H20 team, YMA staff, especially Alex, Jim, Grant & Anthony and the attending dealers, Jet 1, Stoney Creek and On Two Wheels.
