Queensland's Gold Coast was the venue as the first Yamaha WaveDay for season 2005/2006 kicked off at the weekend.

Weather conditions were perfect for the Queensland Wave Day and the location at Marine Stadium provided a secluded area for the S-1 Challenge and Educational Fun Zone.

Almost 30 assembled participants for the day's feast of fun, competition, entertainment, education and WaveRunner togetherness, which included a one-hour tour around the Gold Coast's scenic Broadwater.

Five of the brand new 2006 models were available for evaluation, with riders sampling the FX160 Cruiser, FX160, GP1300R, VX Sport and VX700.

With their dramatic new colour schemes and features, the new models drew plenty of praise.

The day started with Jack Ellison giving a thorough safety briefing, highlighting the local Maritime laws, no-go zones and rider responsibilities.

Groups rotated through the various ride zones with the S-1 Challenge proving popular, with all registrants, dealer's and some YMA staff attempting the course. The fastest time was 22.96 seconds on a GP1300R.
