West Australia's World S1 Champion Paul Vaccaro went within four tenths of a second of his world record time, when the WA WaveDay took place at Mangles Bay Reserve, Rockingham WA on April 18.
The event was well received, with 33 craft on hand, and the West Australian enthusiasts again impressing WaveDay organiser and Yamaha National Sales and Marketing manager for Watercraft, Marty Kypr.
"Everybody was so keen," said Kypr, "I think everybody gave each event a go and many people rode multiple classes. What's more, the female participation rate was probably the best we've ever seen."
World Champ Paul Vicaro again ruled the S1 course, winning the top-ten shootout on his GP1200 with a time of 21.53 seconds, just down on his World Record time of 21.14 from last year.
Another major highlight of the day was the very first public test ride of the awesome new FX160 luxury musclecraft, which brought strong feedback from the range of test pilots who were in no doubt about their opinions.
"We had really glowing, positive feedback about the engine performance," said Kypr, "particularly in terms of acceleration, as well as in the precision of handling.
"The acceleration from zero to 60kph was unanimously considered outstanding, and a few riders also thought the new remote control security system with Learner Mode was pretty trick.
"A number of people commented that it feels like a much smaller craft to ride than it is to ride, and that it was predictable and familiar straight away.
"In fact, Paul Vaccaro stuck it on the S1 slalom course and reeled off 24.52 straight away. He was blown away, and he thought that with another few runs he could get down to some really quick times."
Yamaha also wishes to thank local dealers Jet Power Boat Shop (Balcatta) and Fremantle Yamaha for their support with the WA WaveDay.
