Yamaha owners and fans alike turned out en masse at the NSW mid coast holiday resort town of Port Macquarie to celebrate the inaugural Yamaha Tribe Gathering.
The event saw literally thousands of fans turn out to see the latest Yamaha range of motorcycles, their officially supported race teams and riders, WaveRunner marine displays, associated companies, while two of Australia's best Freestyle Motocross riders left the crowd in awe as they rolled out their myriad of acrobatic displays as they leapt across the 80 foot gap between the take off and landing ramps.
With the formalities commencing on Friday afternoon and running through to Sunday afternoon, there was a host of activities on the go throughout the weekend.
Westport Park, close to Port Macquarie's CBD, proved to be the ideal location for the event as the ability to accommodate the vast number of static and riding displays with the marine displays and action that took part on the adjacent Hastings River.
Panthers Port Macquarie also offered the ideal location to host the events official Welcome Dinner and Gathering Dinner on Friday and Saturday nights respectively. Friday evening saw a number of Yamaha WaveRunners take to the adjacent canal for a spectacular pyrotechnic display, culminating in a display of power as one of the new Yamaha FX140 Cruisers towed five water skiers a world first for the four-stroke machine.
Being the first of any event is always difficult, but the reaction and support that was gained from Port Macquarie, both from Yamaha owners and enthusiasts and the general public, will see the event flourish in the future.
The event saw:
- Almost 40 new model motorcycles, including the Australian release of the FZ6N NakedBike and the first NSW appearance of the flagship YZF-R1 sports bike.
- Yamaha Race Teams from Nikon Yamaha (Road Racing), CDR / Boost Mobile / Yamaha (Motocross), Ballard's Off Road Team (Enduro) and their respective riders such as multiple Australian Champions Kevin Curtain, Troy Carroll and Glen Kearney.
