The weekend's Victorian round of the Yamaha WaveRunner WaveDay series continued the recent trend of high enjoyment and high enthusiasm. Thirty-five craft showed up for the event with 60 participants registering on the day, all taking advantage of the pleasant 25 degree temps and partly cloudy conditions. Both Family and Female classes were well represented, the event significant as the first time in WaveDay history that a female rider has qualified for the top-ten shootout. Melissa Evans was the lady with the itchy trigger finger.
Luke Osborne (GP1200R) won the Top Ten shootout with a time of 24.44 seconds. Many participants capitalised on the opportunity to sample the new FX140 demo craft, with all impressed at the quality of handling and impressive power characteristics.
In fact even the lunchtime display by Jack Ellison and his H20 team tookplace on a brace of FX140's, the team quick to appreciate the way the craft tows, its grunt out of the water, and its ability to keep a consistent speed.
National Marketing Manager Watercraft Marty Kypr was again impressed with the atmosphere and spirit of the WaveDay, and attributed some of the chemistry to the day's commentator.
"Mick Watkins is an Xtreme games and pro wakeboard tour mike-man," said Kypr, "and he did a great job keeping everybody amped up."
"Overall the enthusiasm of the whole day was quite infectious."
