With the sun out and near perfect glassy water conditions, Cams Wharf at Lake Macquarie came alive to 32 Yamaha WaveRunners on Sunday November 17, 2002. Before getting the days activities underway I introduced the new FX140, 4-stroke WaveRunner and invited all WaveDays guests for a test ride throughout the day. A friendly visit and talk to the group by the local waterways officer ensured that everybody abide by the waterway rules and Jack Ellison with his H20 Entertainment crew made certain that all was safe out on the water.

The WaveDay participants were split into three groups, where the S-1 Challenge proved extremely popular again this year.?On the short course play zone, participants received a shot of adrenaline racing each other over 2 laps.?he tour ride around the Lake was a follow the leader chase through some very scenic waterways.

The S-1 classes were categorised to meet the international standard for Yamaha customer ride days operated throughout the world. These are?Ski (SJ), Sport (WB), Runabout 1(up to 800cc, 2/3seater) and?unabout, 2 (over 800cc, 2/3 seater).?e also included a Family class for 2/3 or 4 up riding as well as a Female class.

After three hours of riding all the WaveDay guests were treated to a hot roast lunch and cold drinks followed by a Water Vehicle show put on by Jack Ellison and his team. At this stage all the S-1 times were sorted to find the fastest times for the Top Ten Shoot-out. The top ten were given one pass each on the S-1 course to determine the top three. The top three then battled it out with another pass each to get the days S-1 Champion.?John Polumbit won the Top Ten Shoot-out on his G1200R with a time of 24.65 seconds beating the fastest Runabout 1 class rider Craig Ferguson (DNF) and Michael Buttegieg with a time of 25.41.

The day was wrapped up with prize giving and a lucky door prize of 16 litres of Yamalube TCW-3, 2-Stroke oil with a retail value of $106. The lucky door prize was won by Lynne Adams after all riders tags were put into a bucket and drawn out at random.

The FX140 was very popular with nearly all registered WaveDay participants giving it a go. The enthusiastic response of comfort, performance and handling and comments of I could ride it all day summed up the appeal of the FX.

The next WaveDay is at Rockingham on Sunday, December 8, 2002.

Regards,
Marty
